Not every couple wants do to a winter engagement session, but Courtney and Ryan have their wedding approaching early summer. They were ready to do their Smith Rock winter engagement session. We were lucky with super warm weather for January at 55°! There were only a few clouds in the sky. Smith Rock is a beautiful location for engagement photos, even in the winter. It is absolutely breathtaking and has tons of different areas to explore. For this engagement session, we were able to go on an adventure. We got to climb around, find viewpoints of the river, and walk through the canyon.
My engagement packages include unlimited shoot time, so we were able to relax and explore everything Smith Rock had to offer. Since it wasn’t snowing, we worked with the warm tones of the red rock and the golden light spilling onto the landscape. On top of it being a beautiful day, the session itself was so much fun. Courtney and Ryan had never had their photos taken before, and as you can see, they look amazing. Picking a spot that you love and can have fun in is such an important part of the process when getting photos taken! Being able to actually enjoy the experience makes the photos even better and totally authentic.
If you’re looking to have an engagement session in colder weather, but want it to look warmer than it really is outside, these warm tones are a great place to start. This Smith Rock winter engagement session really doesn’t even look like winter. The warm tones of the rocks and plants make it look like mid-summer. The couple also opted to wear tones that were bright and matched with the landscape! If you’re looking to set up your own winter engagement session, get in touch with me here!
