About Hoyt Arboretum

Hoyt is a nature garden and tree museum inside of Washington Park. It is made up of 189 acres and is littered with gorgeous views. Hoyt would likely only be suitable for elopements or small weddings. Nearby are also the rose gardens which are stunning for photos. Meesh and Nate headed there after their Hoyt Arboretum elopement for bride and groom portraits.

The Elopement

Meesh and Nate knew they wanted something simple and outdoor for their wedding day. They also wanted it to be close to their home in Portland, Oregon. Because of this, they landed on having a Hoyt Arboretum elopement. They covered the Redwood Deck in beautiful candles, brought an arch, florals, and of course, their dog.

Their guests waited for them at the Redwood Deck. One of their guests played soft guitar as they walked down the trial to their ceremony location. As they said their vows to one another, there were beams of light coming in through the tall trees. It was absolutely stunning, and so simple. They went and got some private time after the ceremony by taking photos while exploring the rose gardens. Following that, they held an intimate reception at their home.

Things to Know About Planning a Hoyt Elopement

Whereas Hoyt is just outside of Portland, it’s still the Pacific Northwest. This means rain. A generally speaking, a lot of it. Not in huge quantities, but more or less a consistent drizzle. If you’re looking for good weather and hoping for sunshine, this might not be the best location for you. Permits are needed to get married here, and are fairly easy to get by contacting the park.
